Arts Education

Community

A key goal of Arts for All is to create and empower advocates and conduct ongoing research and evaluation.

Advocacy for Arts for All is carried out in partnership with Arts for LA, which works to foster a healthy environment in which the arts and culture may thrive and be accessible to all in the 88 municipalities and 81 school districts in Los Angeles County.

Arts for LA has developed an online advocacy action center that connects stakeholders to local policy makers. This tool will make it much easier for community members to engage in targeted campaigns in support of arts education.

The Arts Commission also surveys County school districts to track their development in achieving the five critical success indicators for a strong infrastructure supporting arts education. The 2008 Arts Education Performance Indicators Report lists each district’s progress toward adopting an arts education policy, plan, and budget; hiring a district-level Arts Coordinator; and achieving a student to credentialed art teacher ratio of no more than 400 to 1.

Advocacy Training

Thanks to the support of The Wallace Foundation, communities in Arts for All school districts (Burbank, Culver City, Montebello, Paramount, and Santa Monica - Malibu) are learning advocacy skills to support district-wide arts education. Visit the Arts for LA website to find a meeting near you.
