District Residency Grant Program

Arts for All Residency Grant Program
The Arts for All Residency Grant Program, made possible by the National Endowment for the Arts, provides funding to Arts for All school districts that have adopted arts education policies and are implementing long-range arts education plans.

The program provides matching funds to school districts to help establish residencies in K-12 classrooms. The goal of the residencies is to support student learning in the arts, based on the district’s priorities for arts education, by placing artists directly in the classroom. A residency is defined as an artist or arts organization working with the same group of students for a minimum of five (5) classroom sessions. A residency is participatory with students actively involved in hands-on activities, working towards a culminating event or outcome.

All artists and organizations are selected from the searchable Arts Education Program Directory on LAArtsEd.org. All programs and providers listed on the site have been vetted by a peer panel as providing high-quality arts experiences that meet the California Visual and Performing Arts Standards.

Eligible districts must submit a request for funding to the LA County Arts Commission. The annual application period opens each spring. School districts that receive funds are required to adhere to all agreements within the contract with Los Angeles County, which include:

  • The grant must be matched 1:1. At least 75% of the match must be a cash match and 25% of the match can be in-kind.
  • Participating teachers, artists and arts coordinators must meet prior to the residency to ensure consensus on student learning goals in the arts, lesson plans, and the method for assessing student learning in the arts.
  • Residencies will be required to address student learning in the arts based on the arts learning goals connected to the district’s long-range plan.
  • A final report addressing progress in student learning in the arts based on each residency will be required.
  • The Arts Coordinator will serve as the primary contact for schools, teachers and artists and will coordinate and implement structures to assure data collection around the final report and teacher evaluations.
