Fire Station 150, a new facility currently under construction, will provide improved fire protection, emergency medical and life safety services to Santa Clarita and nearby unincorporated areas of northern Los Angeles County. The new 20,000 sq. ft. Battalion Headquarters will include a three-bay apparatus room, training room, exercise room, kitchen, day room and dormitories. This station will also serve as a tour site for local school children and community groups.
Artist Garin Baker is designing a large-scale painted mural for the day room. Artist Steve Farley is designing terrazzo artwork for the entrance lobby. Both are scheduled for installation in the fall of 2010.
About the Artists: Garin Baker received his BFA from Pratt Institute in New York, NY. Garin has exhibited his artwork since 1983 and maintains an active teaching career. His public commissions include murals for the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles; American Road & Transportation Builders, Washington DC and Rudolf & Slatten Engineering Co., Irvine, CA. He maintains a studio in New Windsor, NY.
Steve Farley received his BA from Williams College in Williamstown, MA. Farley has completed numerous public commissions including two stations for the Phoenix, Arizona Light Rail; Gardner Community Center, San Jose, CA and the Broward County West Governmental Center, Broward County, FL. Farley serves in the Arizona State House of Representatives and is a Board member for Arizona Action for the Arts. He maintains a studio in Tucson, AZ.
