Escuela De Baile Tradicional Peruano

Escuela De Baile Tradicional Peruano is dedicated to enriching the Los Angeles community by providing educational classes and performances of traditional Peruvian dance.  Escuela works to expand the knowledge of Peruvian culture by performing at various local events, restaurants and schools such as California State University, Northridge.  Escuela De Baille was established by Walter Almora in 1995.

Artistic Director Walter Almora was born in Lima, Peru, and has been a dancer for over 20 years.  He was a member of the University Folklorico Dance Team at the Catholic University of Peru, where he performed in various venues and theatre and television productions.  After moving to the United States in 1989, he began dancing with the award winning INCA, The Peruvian Ensemble.

Walter Almora currently works for Los Angeles County’s Department of Public Social Services.  In 2004, he helped to increase the accessibility of arts for families receiving welfare benefits by advocating for a free access program.  Currently, families with CalWORKs or Food Stamp benefits can enter the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the Natural History Museum, the Ford Amphitheatre and other museums and gardens for free.
