Two of L.A.'s premier world-dance companies make the Mexican-Filipino
connection. Danza Floricanto and Kayamanan Ng Lahi transform the rich
cargo of the Acapulco to Manila galleon to the stage with sensuous movements,
exotic rhythms and opulent spectacle. Music and dance traditions of both
countries intermingled though nearly three centuries of trade. This cultural
crossover finds joyful expression in the habañera, paso doble,
waltzes, mazurkas and jotas. Set sail on this journey where the
fiery passion of Floricanto meets the vibrant traditions of Kayamanan.

AFRICAN VILLAGE MUSIC FESTIVAL
Kanda Bongo Man, a major African musician from the Democratic
Republic of the Congo and the first to popularize the dance step Kwassa
kwassa, a high speed Soukous dance, headlines this annual event. In 2002,
Kanda Bongo Man, singer-composer brings another musical style, "Rhumba
Koukous, " that has won him great international fame. Congolese soukous
is a lilting, rippling dance groove that seems to smile from every register;
melody and rhythm are inseparable. The African Village Music Festival
"ABC" theme - music of Africa, Brazil, and Cuba - is completed
with Afro-Cuban jazz from Taumbu International Orchestra and sounds
of Bahia from Brazilian Women of the Drum complete the mix. Audience
dancing on stage!

acclaimed Trio Los Panchos and Guicho's Los Dandys. Los
Panchos have recorded over 200 records; some of their hits being Sin
Ti, Besame Mucho, Historia de un Amor, songs that transcend generations.
Add to the magical mix of the evening Guicho Cisneros, composer of countless
Los Dandys hits, among them Gema. Both of these legedary trios
will perform in a tribute to Lucho Gatica's 50th Anniversary. During
the last fifty years Gatica has made famous countless songs among them
El Reloj and La Barca, composed by Roberto Cantoral, which
