UCC Chorus The UCC Chorus, representing children and adults from Churches of Christ throughout the L.A. region, sings the upbeat “Rockin’ Jerusalem.” UCC (formally the United Children Chorus, name currently under construction) was conceived during the summer of 1993 for the Crusade for Christ campaign held in Los Angeles, California. Young boys and girls from Churches of Christ throughout the city and surrounding counties were invited to perform for this tremendous event. Request for the children to remain together continued several months after the crusade and in late September the group was reunited under the direction of Rayvalline L.G. Harrell and Willie R. Norwood, Sr. This dynamic group of young men and women ranging in age from 3 years old though their late twenties enlighten audiences with melodic and entertaining acapella singing, which also includes sign language in their musical repertoire. UCC members represent Church of Christ congregations from Compton, Crenshaw, Cypress, Eastside, Figueroa, Inglewood, Metropolitan, Myrtle Ave., Normandie, North Pasadena, Southside and Westchester. Willie Norwood has been directing the award-winning UCC Chorus for the past 14 years. He is a native Mississippian and attended Jackson State University. As an artist, he is a Dove Awards nominee, vocal music pioneer and has performed on TBN, Stellar and Essence Awards and The World Games directing the Hezekiah Walker Choir of New York with Ray Charles on TBS. |
