Description

The Bixby Knolls Community Foundation is seeking an Events Planning Intern to gain hands-on experience in event coordination, marketing, and execution. The intern will assist in planning and promoting community events such as Concerts in the Park(ing) Lot, First Fridays Art Walk, and various fundraisers, working closely with the Executive Director and Project Manager. Responsibilities include coordinating logistics—vendor outreach, permit applications, venue setup, and event timelines—as well as supporting marketing efforts like social media promotion and community engagement.

This role requires strong multitasking skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced office environment, and comfort interacting with diverse stakeholders. The internship runs from June through December, with an expected commitment of 15-20 in-person hours per week at our office. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience in nonprofit event management, marketing, and community outreach.

Qualifications

The ideal intern will have a strong interest in learning how to plan, promote, execute, and evaluate public events, along with proficiency in Office 365, Google Workspace, and Canva. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, photography, and video editing is a plus. The intern should be highly organized, able to manage complex projects, and comfortable working collaboratively. They will also be expected to take initiative on specific event tasks and provide regular updates to staff.

Background

The Bixby Knolls Community Foundation (BKCF) was founded in 2019 as an independent philanthropic entity that is linked to the Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association. While the Business Improvement Association focuses on commerce, BKCF operates as a separate entity that serves Bixby Knolls through programming that addresses community needs.  BKCF is representative of a highly diverse neighborhood. Cultural equity and inclusion are at the heart of everything we do, so we are committed to serving everyone in our community equitably. Our programming reflects the broad cultural diversity of our neighborhood. We have regularly hosted Black, Latine, and Asian performers for our “Concerts in the Park(ing Lot)” and "First Fridays" events. Our EXPO Art Center also hosts broadly diverse visual and performing artists throughout the year.
