Description

In a part-time role (15-20 hours per week from June through February), provide support to Esperanza Community Housing's Art and Culture Program by coordinating with local artists and arts organizations to produce arts and culture events, exhibitions, and workshops. The Arts and Culture Administrative Intern plays an integral and multifaceted role in Esperanza's mission to integrate arts and culture into community development work, and will work across programs to develop synergetic arts events and programs that promote racial equity and just development in South LA.

Qualifications

- Passion for social justice work - Strong interest in art, education, cultural studies, or media studies strongly desired - Some knowledge of community development or a willingness to learn - Highly creative and innovative - Enthusiasm for community-driven work - Strong written and interpersonal skills - Strong computer skills, including social media, Google Suite, etc. - Strong knowledge of Social Media Marketing and Live Streaming  - Proficient in use of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop - Experience with video editing software such as FinalCut preferred, but not required - Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus - Occasional weekend and evening availability required for events, etc. - Experience in website development a plus  

Background

Esperanza Community Housing Corporation is a community-based nonprofit striving for equitable, just community development in South LA. Based in the vibrant Mercado la Paloma in South Central Los Angeles, Esperanza addresses inequities through six program areas: affordable housing, health and healthcare access, economic empowerment, celebration of local arts and culture, public policy advocacy, and environmental justice. Annually, Esperanza curates and presents approximately twelve culturally enriching art exhibitions, workshops, and festivals. These include the South Central Film Festival, the annual AfroLatinx celebration "La Vida es un Festival", and a cherished Dia de los Muertos festival.
