About the Artwork: While driving around Boyle Heights, from East to West on Cesar Chavez and the various streets North and South, Scholnick took pictures of interesting sights that caught her eye. Whether it was the color, the forms, or the underlying significance of the images, the artist worked to compile a visual library of the area. She then collaged these photos onto a vintage ottoman, drawing over some of the areas with acrylic and Flashe paint highlighting and obscuring them in the way memories can be both clear and faded. This artwork is from the artist's series "This Is Out Ottoman Empire."
