National Day Laborer Organizing Network - Community Media Production Intern

500 N Lake Ave Pasadena CA 91101
Status
Open
Description

NDLON’s Community Media Production Intern will work closely with our Radio Jornalera team, gaining real life experience creating grassroots video content for the immigrant worker community. This position will work approximately 15-20 hrs per week from June through January. Our approach focuses on creating a supportive environment where interns are empowered to take ownership of projects, develop their skills, and gain real-world experience in community-based media and advocacy work.

Qualifications

Potential interns need to be bilingual in Spanish and English due to the bilingual nature of NDLON’s work with the community for content creation. Ideal candidates will have basic knowledge of audio and video production, interest in media production for movement-building and social justice, and a passion for advocating for day laborers and other immigrant workers. We would also love to find a student who speaks Spanish, English, and one of the many indigenous languages like Mam, K’iche’, or Zapoteco that many new migrant workers primarily speak.

Background

The National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON) improves the lives of day laborers and other low-wage migrant workers. We build leadership and power among those facing injustice so they can challenge inequality and expand labor, civil and political rights for all. We use arts & culture to breathe life into these activities and to counter anti-immigrant vilification by uplifting stories that highlight and celebrate day laborers’ humanity and contributions beyond labor.

How to Apply

NDLON requests that students submit a resume and either a cover letter or personal video describing their skills and experience while explaining (1) why they want to work with our organization and (2) what they hope to learn from the internship. Interns should describe their experience with producing and recording social media content for advocacy and their interest in social media as an organizing tool. We will prioritize applications that utilize the personal video format as it will give us a better understanding of the student’s existing video creation capabilities. Although not strictly required, personal videos instead of cover letters are highly recommended and will be prioritized over applications with written cover letters. Video submissions should be in .mp4 format and between 3-5 minutes long. Interns are encouraged to be creative but appropriate with their videos in ways that showcase their personality and content-creation style while answering the two questions above.
