Refugees was inspired by the artist’s reflections on the rich but often overlooked histories of the Asian American diaspora living in Los Angeles, and the brave journeys many refugees made crossing oceans to build new lives in uncharted territories.

When rebuilding a relationship with a place outwardly, looking inwardly provides a space to rebuild balance and stability and heal as well. Flowers is a reflection on becoming grounded, of looking inward, and establishing roots and taking up space both physically and metaphorically.
