Description

The Education and Community Intern will participate in cultivating and expanding current and new community and educational partnerships and developing online programming so that the resources we create have further reach and impact. The intern will work closely with the Director of Education and Community Engagement to assist in executing and growing the educational and community outreach elements of MUSE/IQUE's 2024 season and in preparation for the 2025 season, focusing on how these outreaches can be better implemented in the virtual space using online learning and curricular tools, integrating them with tools we already use.
MUSE/IQUE's outreach programs take the ideas of its mainstage productions and translate them for audiences through educational and community engagement programs which include interactive workshops presented in-person or zoom and collaborative opportunities. At the same time, the intern will also aid in developing MUSE/IQUE's cause-based and venue-based outreach initiatives. Mentored in best practices by the Director, the intern will research and cultivate possible new partners for MUSE/IQUE's workshops and community activities, as well as assist with deepening the reach and service with current community partners (17 current partners with 6 in development serving foster youth, youth and families experiencing homelessness, those of all ages with special needs and low income seniors), harmonizing and developing curriculum and evaluation/survey tools, and aiding in increasing accessibility, diversity and inclusion. The position will work 20-25 hrs/wk week June- November.

Qualifications

MUSE/IQUE is seeking a driven, reliable, self-starting intern with honesty, integrity, and curiosity. Above all, the intern must have a deep desire to learn and a strong sense of initiative. Successful candidates are punctual and conduct themselves respectfully and with great attention to detail, work well under pressure, and are proactive in problem-solving with an ability to balance multiple tasks independently and as part of a team under tight deadlines.  The intern must have strong and effective written communication, organizational, and project management skills. Experience in music or the performing arts is a plus, with an active interest in education and community partnerships within local artistic communities.  As we continue with in-person events, the intern must be available to work some evening and weekend hours and must have a reliable form of transportation and current driver’s license. Parking and mileage for business errands will be reimbursed.

Background

All human beings deserve the opportunity to have their imaginations and understanding expanded through active engagement with inspired live music. MUSE/IQUE pioneers new musical experiences for people by creating curated live music events and outreach programs, all aimed at inspiring the creative spirit, engaging the community imagination, and fostering new generations of music lovers.  MUSE/IQUE is a member-supported, nonprofit performing arts organization making radically engaging live music experiences accessible for all. Built on a tradition of community and collaboration, we create events that feature an eclectic mix of artists and artistic disciplines in unconventional locations. MUSE/IQUE was founded to upend the misconception that live orchestral music and performing arts are elitist, unapproachable, and, frankly, dull! Our mission is to build empathy and expand imaginations through transformative live events and strong partnerships in Pasadena and the greater Los Angeles area.
