MashUp Contemporary Dance Company seeks a creative and strategic thinking, proactive intern who is excited to support MashUp’s mission to uplift women artists and build community through dance, and its value for empowerment, creativity, community, diversity, and innovation, in working with partners, donors, artists, and community members.   This position will work a part time, hybrid schedule of appx. 15-20 hrs/week from August 2024-February 2025 to support the planning for the company’s annual International Women’s Day Dance Festival. Individuals with experience, coursework and interest working in community building, volunteering, program management, and/or marketing and public relations are encouraged to apply.   
 

Qualifications

Applicants with event planning and community outreach experience are encouraged to apply, for this position will provide hands-on experience with in person and virtual program management and audience and community engagement. Strong communication skills and enthusiasm for networking and building professional relationships is important. Research experience, whether in an academic or professional setting, and interest in the Los Angeles arts and cultural sector is preferred. The Intern must demonstrate cultural sensitivity, and familiarity with standard performing arts production practices is a plus. General office administration and computer skills, and willingness and ability to quickly learn new applications is required.   Undergraduates who are majoring in arts management, dance or related arts fields are encouraged to apply, for the company hopes to provide opportunities for these students to expand their skillsets, thereby creating future leaders in the arts and culture field. 
 

Background

Founded in 2010 to address gender inequities in the dance industry in LA, MashUp Contemporary Dance Company’s mission is to uplift womxn artists and build community through dance. Led by a Creative Council, MashUp's programs - including its International Women’s Day Dance Festival, Choreographic Residency Program, Open Classes, Choreography Open Mic Nights, and annual National Women’s Equality Day event - provide leadership opportunities, resources, training, and community for 100+ womxn dance professionals each year. By producing artistic work from womxn artists that invites exploration of intersectional feminist narratives; amplifying and supporting womxn artists’ work and continued development; uniting diverse communities through dance and arts experiences, facilitating dialogue on relevant societal issues, and prioritizing internal practices that combat gender inequities and pay gaps from within, Mashup is seeking to advance gender equality in the dance industry and beyond.
