We are seeking a Program Intern for our popular monthly artist talk/ site visit series "River Sessions." This position will appeal to anyone wishing to gain experience in community engagement via hands-on art making and community gathering/ story sharing grounded by Indigenous principles of reciprocity and Hyonaayn’ar--a Tongva word that means both teacher and student. Working directly with our Program Coordinator, Executive Director, and Indigenous Advisor, the intern will assist in all aspects of preparation and implementation of the River Sessions including monthly in-person site visits with a group of 30-40 participants to different places along the LA River with featured artists as guides. This position will work approximately 15-20 hours a week from June through February.
This position requires strong written and verbal communication skills. An ideal candidate is detail-oriented and able to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines. They must be proficient in using Google Suite, developing spreadsheets, and conducting presentations. Familiarity with GoogleMeet and other video conferencing is ideal. The Intern must be physically capable of performing all activities and interact effectively with individuals at all social and economic levels. Enthusiasm for the mission of LA River Arts and the communities we serve is required.
Founded in 2014, LA River Public Art Project combines advocacy, public policy, and the arts to re-present the river we share. We believe that dynamic public art is the ideal platform for focusing public attention on the Los Angeles River. Our efforts confirm the value of inclusionary art-based public projects, raise the visibility of artists and engage communities, and envision a robust river cultural environment.
