Get Lit-Words Ignite seeks a Development Intern to work with our Director of Development and senior staff members in the fundraising operations of our youth empowerment and literacy organization. The intern will help to complete grant requests and charitable donation acknowledgements and will assist in the planning of small and large-scale events, including logistics and fundraising outreach. This position will work approximately 15 hours a week from June through mid-December 2025.
Get Lit expects all applicants to have basic computer skills, have experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and be familiar with Macintosh operating systems. Candidates should also be comfortable working in a professional setting and have an interest in fundraising and development as well as literary and/or performing arts. Other skills useful for this position include: proofreading skills, event management, and an ability to communicate professionally and effectively with a wide range of people including teenagers, parents of students, professional staff members, and organization Board Members.
Get Lit – Words Ignite inspires literacy, wellness, creativity, and workforce development for young people through Spoken Word poetry and media. Through in- and after-school programs centered on classic and contemporary poetry and multi-media expression, Get Lit advances education, promotes literacy, and offers opportunities for under-resourced young people to create community and raise up their authentic voices. Our programs span the classroom to career including: In-School Program with award-winning curricula; the Classic Slam spoken word competition; the Get Lit Players performance troupe; our Film Lab semester-long program for high-schoolers; and our Creative Career Lab that offers young adults job training and employment placement in creative fields.
