Description

The Mural Workforce Academy (MWA) is a program within Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory that introduces muralism as a career pathway for Los Angeles High School youth. This position is ideal for a muralist who has an interest in learning the administrative side of public art projects. The Mural Workforce Academy (MWA) Intern will work with lead muralists to help organize mural projects from start to finish, including scheduling, progress tracking, and facilitating discussions. They will support community engagement by gathering input from stakeholders to ensure designs reflect the community's values. Administrative duties include tracking budgets, paperwork, contracts, supply management, and documentation of all project phases.  The internship offers opportunities to observe the artistic process while gaining insight into arts program management. Through training and professional development, the intern will build skills in leadership, project management, and public art administration. This position will work 15-20 hours a week from August to December.
 

Qualifications

Ideal qualifications for the Mural Workforce Academy (MWA) Intern position include a strong interest in managing public art or community-based projects. Candidates should have some experience or coursework in project management, event coordination, or similar roles that involve organizing tasks, scheduling, and meeting deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for facilitating collaboration between participants, artists, and community stakeholders. The intern should have excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, track progress, and handle logistics efficiently.  The ideal candidate will also demonstrate teamwork and leadership abilities, working collaboratively while coordinating participants and managing project elements.   Finally, a passion for the arts and enthusiasm for supporting artistic projects through administrative and managerial efforts will help the intern thrive in this position.
