Under the supervision of the Director of Programs & Partnerships, the Girls’ Voices Now Intern’s primary project will be to help in preparing for and executing the Girls’ Voices Now Youth Program. GVN is a youth development program that builds confidence and fosters inclusion within under-resourced communities in Los Angeles, empowering young girls and femme-identifying youth (ages 14 - 22) through filmmaking as a means of personal, academic, and professional development. The communities we serve often lack platforms for girls to express themselves, hindering their ability to develop confidence and crucial life skills. The intern's schedule will vary slightly, with more hours and in-person presence between mid-June and late July/early August (about 25-30 hours per week), then the intern's weekly hours will decrease to about 10-15 hours a week between mid-August until early November. The internship will conclude shortly after the premiere screening event taking place in early November.
- First and foremost, the intern should be passionate about girls’ and women’s rights, and believe in the power of film to effect social change. - Ability to proficiently and fluently navigate basic computer tasks is required (emailing, typing, etc.) - Ability to professionally communicate and represent Women’s Voices Now to external audiences is required. - Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and ask questions when unsure is a must. - Ability to be flexible, adapt, and “roll with the punches” with a positive attitude is a must. - Desire to be a part of a small, close-knit, and passionate team, working collaboratively at all times, is a must. - Prior experience in social services, working with youth, event planning, and/or project management is a plus. - A background or passion for filmmaking is a plus. - Ability to write, speak, and translate to/from Spanish is a plus.
Women’s Voices Now uses film to drive social change that advances women’s and girls’ rights globally. We carry out our mission through our three core programs: a hybrid women’s rights film festival, our youth development program (Girls’ Voices Now), and our free, online film collection.
