Cloud Archive, 2022, Oil on canvas
The central image was painted from a photograph taken from the top of Griffith Park during the first days of the devastating wildfires of 2020, as a smoke cloud was just beginning to form above the San Gabriel Mountains. I wanted to talk about how the landscape in Southern California is affected by global warming and the way that time is measured and punctuated by these events.

The landscape in the background is the view of downtown Los Angeles from Elysian Park – the complex of bridges and infrastructure that I drive through every day. The Dalmatians are stand-ins for past relationships and my close-knit community of artists in Los Angeles.
