About The Artwork

Still Standing #2 of 5 (from the series Damaged), 2022, Print

When facing hardship, we seek solace. Damaged is a body of work inspired by the act of walking in the forest, while escaping from the troubles of the day. It is about seeking the beauty of the moment, in spite of the darkness that lingers on the edges. A walk in the forest is a spiritual experience, and magical transformations can occur as we bathe in the sunlight and feel the wind on our skin. Damaged explores our marred edges while simultaneously celebrating the beauty that brings us peace. This image was photographed on the grounds of the Brand Library & Gallery in Glendale, CA.

Little Round Top, #1 of 4 (from the series Damaged), 2022, Print

When facing hardship, we seek solace. Damaged is a body of work inspired by the act of walking in the forest, while escaping from the troubles of the day. It is about seeking the beauty of the moment, in spite of the darkness that lingers on the edges. We put a brave face forward but know that just behind our reassuring smiles, our “I’m fine, thank you,” our facade is cracking, and our countenance is crumbling. This image of Little Round Top in Altadena is the burial site of Owen Brown, son of John Brown the abolitionist. The site is revered by local historians for its importance in civil rights history.
