My submission documents protest demonstrations at Los Angeles City Hall and Hollywood following the death of George Floyd. The work responds to social/cultural narratives, identity, presence of self, place, and community. The imagery on television that first unfolded following Floyd’s murder compelled me to show up in solidarity and support of the communities directly affected. I witnessed scenes that countered the narrative of violence being put out by the media. Instead, I felt an underlying thread of hope that brought everyone together inside that moment, and in that, I was proud to call Los Angeles my adopted home.
