This photograph features a local elder visually protesting the southern border wall and remembering lives lost to COVID-19. Creative and intergenerational resistance like this are especially unique to Los Angeles. I chose this image to make it part of our visual history of resistance, creating a record to hopefully inspire future generations in their movements.

A danzante stands tall during a traditional danza performed for Self Help Graphics annual Día de Los Muertos event. Danza Azteca in Los Angeles has connected generations of Chicanes to their Indigenous roots and this image aims to honor that connection and the culture's immense presence in our city.
